In the aftermath of the attack, Gui Chen mourns Su Ma. After arriving in the city, he meets Ji ie and Yu Ran, helping to mediate the scuffle between the two. At the palace, the ruler Baili Jing Hong introduces the prefecture princess Baili Huan who is initially impressed with Gui Chen's appearance but quickly sours when she realizes he lacks the ambition to be Emperor of the Northlands.
