A Love So Beautiful (2017)

Chinese school romance dramas are kind of my thing and this one does not disappoint. It has everything, innocent love, intensinty, second lead, good friendship vibes, chemistry between the girl and the boy, nice built up, drama, high school dynamics. Sure, the story wasn't original and there are tons of dramas out there with the same theme, but at least they hundled it pretty neat and the final result was decent. Also, the girl was cute and funny, whether the boy was kind of a snob at first, got better afterwards, but kept his attitude, which was refreshing because in most dramas the male lead starts with a i-hate-you-i-am-too-cynical and makes a 360 degrees turn a few episodes later. So, 7.5 out of 10.

I was putting off watching this drama for a while. I always saw it under 'top dramas', my recommendation feed, reviews where it was called as another ISWAK/Itazura na Kiss/Playful Kiss, etc.

Before I began watching this I was only familiar with the male lead in a drama where his role wasn't too big. I did know that he is quite decent so decided to go ahead. Here's what I thought finally:

STORY: On the surface it comes off as another youth drama. However what I liked most about the drama was the simplicity of the plot. It's just about a group of friends, an annoying love triangle, a jerk male lead and ditz female lead. I can see the comparisons with ISWAK but nothing tops that. It would be fair to say this was at least inspired from that story. But what sets this drama apart are the likeable characters and the trivial-yet-relatable situations they go through. Their friendship was excellent and it was best part for me over the romantic plot.

CHARACTERS AND LOVE TRIANGLE: I had a love-hate relationship with Xiao Xi. She's cute, simple but was too dense for my liking. I also don't like how she seemed not to have any self-respect. I was often uncomfortable with the message this drama keeps giving- it's fine to keep chasing someone even if they walk all over you. Not saying that Jiang Chen didn't like her, but he was mean to her majority of the drama. For me I was all in on the second lead ship. I haven't suffered such major Second Lead Syndrome since AGES. Bo Song deserved Xiao Xi's love. I hated how stone cold she was to him and even seemed ungrateful at times. He did so much for her but she always had one person in her heart. I would blame the writer for this plot because the better moments were written between Xiao Xi and Bo Song. She kept hanging with him till the last 2 episodes, not acknowledging his love. For god's sake, she spent her entire life with a one-sided love and I couldn't buy how she couldn't recognise Bo Song's love throughout regardless of what he said to her. I didn't really buy Jiang Chen as a character, his reason for being mean to her and why he liked her. He just seemed like a selfish person to me who played and manipulated her as he wished. I liked his adult side better because he had at least become more mature and expressive by then. I did enjoy his interactions with Xiao Xi towards the end. The other two friends were awesome and I was glad about having a secondary couple on the show.

FLAWS: It was slow, seemed to have borrowed ideas and lack of plot in between episodes. One thing that is rarely explained in Chinese dramas is why the leads fall for each other. In this drama also I had no clue. Especially Xiao Xi's devotion to JC was hard to understand. It was more than just fangirl feelings or puppy love. She was stupid, playful and childish but was bold when it came to pursuing him and had only him in her heart forever.

I think this drama is cute if you want to watch something relaxing without much drama. The drama was slow but it was consistent in following its own pacing in all the episodes. Just don't root for the second lead and this drama might just be more enjoyable.

As a huge sucker for high school fluff (although I haven't watched a lot to say I'm an expert), I was pretty excited to watch this drama after the hype it received from my facebook timeline. I had already planned to only watch the first episode and delay the next episodes for a week or until I get a little free but it drove me to watch more episodes and I ended up watching it in 2 days, somehow managed to squeeze it in my tight schedule.

Starting with the plot, it's not the best but it isn't that bad either. The story started fine but as soon as they graduated from High School, everything felt rushed - it felt like huge chunks of their adulthood were missing. Also, there were too many issues in main protagonists' relationship that weren't addressed well or maybe it's because they lacked communication which is one of the things I disliked in this drama.

Moving on to the characters, I honestly loved the chemistry and dynamics of the five main characters. Each of them had their own identity which made their group interesting to watch. However, I didn't like some of their behaviours individually. I don't want to spoil much but I'll take Jiangchen as an example. His anger always leads to bad decisions and at some point, it gets tiring that you start questioning how Xiaoxi was able to tolerate him and like him after all his actions specifically his "coldness." I know it's what makes him Jiangchen but the excitement dies down since you how his choices will widely affect the storyline and where it is heading. Nonetheless, I really liked Jingxiao's and Luyang's character. They made the drama more light-hearted than it was supposed to be. I also have nothing but respect for my hero, Wu Bosong.

Overall, A Love So Beautiful is a cute drama. I had problems here and there but after all, I came for the fluff. It did give nostalgic vibes and reminded me of my puppy love days. You surely do everything for the person you like whether it's dumb or not. Happy watching!

Well deserved rating!!!

Loved this!!! I really wish there was a season 2. I’d love to see their wedding. But after watching the ending again , I realized they got back right where they left off and that the last episode was quite touching.

The drama in this show was just enough. It wasn’t too much where it was unrealistic and it wasn’t lacking because after every episode I wondered what was going to happen next.

There are some twists and turns in this series that I think of enjoyed.

I loved the acting, the music, and just about everything in this show!!!

I think the only con I have is that from college to the end seemed a bit rushed. A lot of time was spent building the story (♥️♥️♥️♥️) and then I feel like after high school it was too quick. I would’ve loved having 5 or more episodes to really show how it was during those 3 years.

But all in all, I think I’ll be able to watch this again and again. Lots of funny moments, questionable ones, and also heartwarming scenes!

Xiaoxi and Jiang are neighbours since childhood and Xiaoxi has a crush on him, she is weak in studies and King is just the opposite " the topper of the class" . Yes, the story starts from them studying in high school where they as students face difficult situations and grow as people, as friends!
I loved how the entire group of friends were so amazing they always supported each other, it was amazing! Xiaoxi and Jungxiao were these amazing best friends who got each others back till the end, they were so considerate about each other. Xiaoxi puts in endless efforts to impress our hero who secretly loves her and feels jealous of Busan (second lead, a swimmer) and Xiaoxi's relationship these scenes reflected on how much Huang feels for Xi
I actually love the other couple , Jungxiao and Lu Yang. Lu Yang is the reason you crack up while watching this series he is absolutely cute and funny, the couple was love. Busan the second lead guy damn ,I felt was teary every time he put effort for Xiaoxi because obviously he doesn't get the girl! ????
This set of friends grow from being high school students to college pass outs and it's amazing to see how everything is at the end .
I wish I got to see a beauiful epilogue though. I was hoping a lot more for the end.

OKAY, so where do I begin? So many and all just good things to talk about with regards to this show! It was amazeballs!!!
This drama tops my 2017 list~ it had everything I could ask for in any drama. The pacing of the story, the content, the actors , the music, the chemistry between the leads(OMG), you name it and you got it here.
I enjoyed and loved watching this show to the very end. It was to the point where I would just automatically check my feed/notifications if a new episode has been uploaded.
The story I think was very similar to It Started with A Kiss and a bit of They kiss Again. You got the really cute female lead crushing on the male lead aka Mr. Cold genius. Me loving ISWAK and TKA (arjoe fan here o.<) made me love this drama even more as the story has a very special place in my heart.

So on with the review, the pacing of the story was okay- not too slow and not too fast either, it was just perfectly right. We got enough of their high school life, how their characters and relationship developed and also to the part were they all are out into the real world. Though, I would've been even happier if they extended another 2 more episodes to just show us how they are in a relationship. I felt like that part was cut-off way too short, I mean the leads had great chemistry so why not show-off more of that?
The content/story as I've mentioned above, is similar to ISWAK and TKA but just a shorter version. This was so good as you have that adorable puppy high school love story which I thought was the sweetest. The leads looked and felt like they were very comfortable with each other, hence made me even more hyped with all their cute cuddly scenes. The acting was good as well, both lead portrayed their characters very well. I mean the content of this drama was so not out of the ordinary but what made me watch and love it was down to how well the actors executed their roles. The music, OMG it went so well with the drama's vibe! The OST's in this drama was very well fitted- soft, sweet and light-hearted.

I HIGHLY recommend this drama to all my fellow drama-lovers out there! As this is packed with sweetness, drama, life lessons, that cute high school puppy love story and of course that really good chemistry vibes between the leads.
So if you're looking for something light, cute, sweet, just good vibes drama, then this one is worth the try! Happy watching, xox.

I had to give this drama a second chance because I could not get past the first couple of episodes due to the main girl's personality. The male character, is not as expressive but he is adorable when he smiles or tries to hide his smiles. I love it when he finally open up his love for the main girl and literally force her to do things just to get her back [nothing abusive though its just bossy and force so he doesn't lose her cause she was being stubborn and stupid.] The two main characters are neighbors so they also go to school together. They had many ups and downs, misunderstandings, Especially the girl who always misunderstands the guy's feelings. Mostly because the guy is very quiet about his feelings. However, he does care for her and does things for her without her knowing. Its overall a very cuteeee drama. Reminds me a lot of ISWAK. The girl is not smart in school but she's really good in art. The guy, naturally is very smart and went for the medical route. So yeah its similar to allt he versions of ISWAK. I liked it, I was smiling a lot towards the end. I think you will too.

Made my heart happy.

This drama was really nice and refreshing, after watching this it made me happy. This may seem like any other cliché high school drama, the ‘not smart’ girl and the ‘smart’ boy, but really this drama was different.

Jiang Chen! I really really liked this character, the really smart handsome popular boy. His character was really nice and kind. He observed Chen Xiaoxi’s behaviour towards him and accepted it in a quiet, anonymous way, which made the suspense real! He was ‘happy’ to help others with their work. He alse got really jealous of Wu Bosong, which made us all squirm. The fact he was shy of confessing jn high school but later on when they left, he didn’t hild back on how he confessed and admired Chen Xiaoxi. Thats when his character development really kicked in. To conclude he was a shy, observing boy who turned into a less shy, bold with his feelings toward Xiaoxi kind of man.


Chen Xiaoxi! Chen Xiaoxi’s character was really nice and fresh. She may have been the stereotypical sort of not so smart teen who made her friends laugh but she really made it for me. She was bold with her feelings and didn’t hide the fact she liked Jiang Chen. The only part i think i would change os the fact that she kept leading Wu Bosong on, filling his feelings with hope. When Jiang Chen confessed, you could tell she was obviously really happy, after thinking he didn’t like her and he liked Li Wei. As she grew older she became an even more confident independent woman, which i think was a really nice added touch for her character.


Wu Bosong! I really really liked this character. I think he deserved much better 100%. He never got angry of Chen Xiaoxi, for liking someone else and he was always really patient and supporting. He never got made at anyone, and he would do anything for his friends, especially Chen Xiaoxi.



Lu Yang & Lin Jingxiao! This couple really made an impact on me. Lu Yang really liked Lin Jingxiao but never really got an answer, he always did anything and made her happy, which is what made Jingxiao fall for him. She was mature and he was childish, it was a really great perfect match!


Li Wei! Li Wei’s character was really just a cry for help. Jiang Chen was really just looking out for her. Yes, at some points she is portrayed as a girl looking for attention but with everything going on for her i think it was justified. I think Li Wei should have had a nice happy story, being heard and liked in the end, without Chen Xiaoxi holding a grudge.

Cutest drama ever!

This is one of the cutest dramas I've ever seen. It's filled with such sweet, heartwarming moments and humor. I can't tell you how much I laughed and cried watching this. First, the cast did amazing. I was already familiar with Sun Ning as I've seen him in The King's Avatar. I loved the way he portrayed his role as the funny and dorky Lu Wang. As for the rest of the cast, this was the first time I've seen them act. Wang Zi Wei's role as Lin Jingxiao was awesome. She cares and sticks up for her friends and is not afraid to speak her mind. Gao Zhi Ting's role as the athlete Wu Bosong was another character I loved. He's also funny and caring. Shen Yue's role as Chen Xiaoxi was just the cutest. I think Yue did excellent portraying her character, especially through the time changes when they start with their teens years to adulthood. Hu Yi Tian's role as the popular Jiang Chen was really good as well. I loved both the main lead and second lead couples. I think I may have fallen for Hu Yi Tian, heh.

One of the things I loved about this drama was the type of friendship they had. They just had that bond. They all did fun things together and had each other's backs in any situation they were in. Of course, they had their moments where they argued, but they would makeup. The music is so cheerful and bubbly. The theme song for the drama is just so sweet. The pacing of the drama was great as I loved that we got to see the characters grow. I can say that this drama has become my favorite! I definitely recommend it! It's a cute love story, but it is not cringy nor over the top. It's just perfect!

Can honestly say this drama is entertaining from the beginning to the end. The love stories and romance were definitely forefront and beautifully handled but the friendships and formation of their tight crew, was so enjoyable to watch. If I could change one thing, I wish they would of extended the episodes and we could of seen some of that missed time that they jumped thru. I can only remember one song from this drama, not to say that there wasn’t more but apparently they were not as memorable. I didn’t dislike the music or think it was distracting like some other dramas either. Please watch the episodes thru the end, I loved the bonus scenes shown after the episodes. Highly recommend watching this drama. I definitely became a Shen Yue fan after watching, A Love So Beautiful.

The drama is not that bad. Actually, it is really good. The part which I don't like is that the female lead confesses at the beginning. It's not that girl is not supposed to confess at first but it should not have occurred in the first episode. Also, there should be a little sign that the male lead likes the female lead. I mean it is not shown properly at the beginning. I needed to assume that the male lead likes the female lead because they are male and female lead. The story is really good though. It has the perfect amount of drama and suspense. It is just perfect if you don't like ea plain or a very dramatic drama.
