This is a story about love and friendship, where the characters are given a chance to reconnect in a second life as they were separated in the first.Pros:
1. The plot is unique and not something you see in every other drama.
2. Characters are all fun and interesting. Even the FL who is a fangirl never puts up with mistreatment from her idol. No super annoying airheads here.
3. The story has some supernatural elements and two timelines, which are well put together and doesn't get messy.
4. Acting is top notch. Our leads are experienced and wonderful actors who really brought the characters to life.
5. The friendship between the three MCs was so true and heartfelt.
6. The sacrifice of love the leads had to make the first time around is heart wrenching and its so good to see them get a second chance.
7. Best kiss scene in Kdrama history. I haven't seen anything better and I've watched a LOT of dramas.
8. The ML is just way too sexy.
Cons:
1. The FL is much older than the ML and 2ML, and she is portraying a person much younger than them which seemed odd to me.
2. Although I had a pleasant time watching the entire show I didn't feel the suspense or thrill elements from the flashbacks. The story was nice enough but I wasn't ever too invested in it.
Overall I'd recommend you watch this if you want to watch something new and interesting which still features love and friendship.

What a wonderfully shot drama with a winning cast and tight knit storyline.
Story: Every episode builds upon the last. I was never bored. The use of humor in this drama is also on point. Instead of the common "trolling" often employed by writers in dramas these days, the humor is unique and refreshing. The way the past life story is unraveled also fits very well with the character and story developments. In all, a very well executed drama.
Music: AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL OST. One of the songs is in English, which made it all the easier to relate to as a English-speaking viewer. A great choice of the songs used in this drama. Made the drama so beautiful and easy to be immersed in.
Acting: Yoo Ah In is in this. Need I say more? All 3 of the leads were able to infuse layered acting into this so that the characters embodied their roles perfectly, whether that was helplessness, confusion, paranoid, etc. The ending was perfect and poignant, and only because the leads' acting was able to pull it off. Some people criticized that the main lead was too insensitive and a jerk, but as you keep watching the drama reveals why he is that way, so have some patience.
I cannot say enough good things about this drama. While Legend of the Blue Seas (which is also about past and current reincarnated lives) is a romance story, Chicago Typewriter is instead a story about patriotism and friendship. The past life motif is strong this year (i.e., Goblin, Legend of the Blue Seas) but Chicago Typewriter has the best story.
This drama is so underrated, I honestly don't understand why this drama doesn't have as many viewers as the other two above. Don't be put off by the "literary-ness" which put me off initially but instead expect a very intriguing period drama x fantasy/supernatural aspects. The bromance is strong in this one. Instead of rooting for the love line, I rooted for the bromance all the way.
Definitely worth the watch! (and perhaps staying up late for!)

I will not go as far as to say that this drama was perfect, but it was so wonderfully close to perfection, that I am willing to look past its small flaws and call it what it is : a masterpiece. No drama has ever made me feel this way before. I felt deeply connected to the characters (especially those of the 1930s era) and around the final episodes, I had to remind myself that these are fictional characters. I was so invested in this story that it felt like it was real and I felt every emotion that the characters felt.
I went in this drama knowing a few big plot points (and by that, I mean episode 15 and 16 major spoilers), so I sort of knew how this story would end, but I was still caught off guard by the way this story unfolded. Starting episode 10 or 11, I think I cried at least once every episode. Sure, I am a sensitive person, but there was something so beautifully tragic about this story that made my eyes water and my chest tighten in a way they had never before in front of a drama. Even now that I completed it, I still feel the emotions rushing back to me when I think of the 1930s story. Truthfully, the only reason I didn't put 10 as a rewatch value is because this story touched me and made me feel so many things that I'm not sure I could go through that again in a near future. However, I can easily see myself watching it again after a little while has passed.
Our main cast truly shines in this drama and I felt especially drawn to Yu Jin Oh and his growth throughout his story of acceptance and moving on from the past. His character was at times comedic, at times tragic, and Go Kyung Pyo truly let the character shine. Im Soo Jeong shined as Ryu Soo Yeon and I was so impressed by Yoo Ah In's skills, making the past and present day characters seem like totally different people. I kept forgetting that they were both played by the same actor !
Like many other people, I do wish we saw more of the 1930s timeline, as it was for sure more interesting and poignant then the present day one, but I honestly don't think my heart could've endured more of the emotionally charged 1930s scenes. To me, it was satisfying and somewhat comforting to watch the present day romance evolve in a free manner and let those two souls love each other without the 1930s context being in the way. The simplicity of the current relationships (when compared to 30s ones) gave more depth to the sad-yet-beautiful story of our past characters. It made it more interesting, and the contrast between the two romances was so beautiful to witness.
I never expected that I would ever feel so connected to a drama, but here we are, and I regret nothing. It will take a long time before I move on from this drama and I think its life lessons will always stay with me, in a way.
Here's one of my favourite quotes of this drama :
"Tomorrow might not be yours. Your loved ones won't always be by your side. If you want to say "I love you", say it now. If you want to smile, do it now"

Loved Watching it.. From the casts to the plot everything was literally on fire.🔥
The perfect blend of romance and patriotic flavour..
Each and every episode was a delight. Lag was not even a part of its vocabulary.😁 Perfectly constructed time jump from Current Korea to Joseon Before Independence
Se-Joo is a famous author with a following usually reserved for K-pop stars. Jeon Seol, one of his Die Heart fans, and a typewriter that came all the way from Korea before its independence. As this trio comes together.. be prepared for some heartwarming chemistry
I am pretty sure that this will remain at the top of my favourite dramas list.
In many ways, this one is underrated. For those who enjoy unexpected twists and anticipating plots, be sure not to miss this.

1930s saved the rating
To say the truth the story of 1930s is really touching and beautiful...But the execution of the drama isn't good.
probably that's the reason why it is not famous,
They used repetitive scenes again and again to kill the time and the present day story is purely bland which was majority of this drama.if someone just watch the 1st , 15th and 16th episode the story will be clear to them
The characters
The charcter of Jeon seol and Ryu soo Hyun was pretty much alike and have the same traits
But Han se ju and seo Hwi young seems completely different person. I loved Hwi young, he was calm , scheming, rebel but sympathetic he knew how to love and was ready to sacrifice himself for the country the chooses his responsibility over his emotions while Han se ju is arrogant, dumb and self centred ..... specially I hate the hair cut of seju it's completely changed his appearance from Hwi young.....it's really very hard to believe that seju is Hwi young's reincarnation
I loved Yoo Jin oh / shin yool character
If they just made the series for 1930s it would had been a great series ,the story of freedom fighters
It's a avarage series with a touching past story........

This is a story between two worlds. Set at the present time and the other one was the time of Japanese occupation during the later years of Joseon era. A story of reincarnation and tragic past that should be corrected only at the present time. A story of valuing true friendship and true love. The drama was really good from start to finish since every kdrama is unique, it is a plus for a drama that has no falling moments all throughout the episodes. Every episode are worth to watch especially the flashback parts of their life. I was hoping that there are scenes where the final chapter of Chicago typewriter are published at the present time. Chicago Typewriter Is A Masterpiece
I decided to watch Chicago Typewriter because I couldn't move on from Mr. Queen's ending and I feel horrible for ignoring the show when it first aired merely because I didn't like the poster and the story line. BUT BITCH PLEASE. This show? It's everything you would've ever wanted.Stunning acting? It's here
Comedy? It's here
Romance? DO NOT even worry about it
Friendship? This show will make you be their friend
Heartbreak? IT'S FILLED WITH IT. But don't worry, nothing bad happens but you will feel EMPTY and NOSTALGIC like fuck. This show will make you go through a rollercoster of emotions and make your heart ache without giving a bad ending.
Last but not the least, THE MUSIC. I never put much effort in writing about the music but this show's OSTs are HEAVENLY. If I could give it a million stars, I would. The first OST by Saltnpaper would DESTROY you. I mean it. I cry whenever I hear it and the other one by SG will fill you with pain. The ending is poetically beautiful. CT is such a gem. It deserves to be recognised more but also I don't want many people to know about it because it's too precious. Yk how many people don't want a lot of people to know about valuable and precious things? That's how I felt about this drama.
I finished this show in 2 days! With school work and other things. I cut out taking a shower, spending endless hours in social media and sleep. It was addictive.
Also, I've noted three things from this show (despite its greatness) :
1) Yoo Ah In is a fantastic actor ( I had never watched his drama before but now he's literally my favourite actor)
2) Yoo Ah In is SMOKING HOT (with hair or even without hair) but him as Hwi Yeong (with the glasses, typewriter and outfit) is sexy on ANOTHER LEVEL. He's God. I'm not even lying.
3 ) He is the BEST KISSER EVER. I know there are other actors like Jong suk, The lead of fight for my way and healer (I cannot recall their names but I really love them) but Yoo ah in beats them all. He kisses passionately (don't call me a creep but a lot kissing scenes don't have many emotions in it) In CT, when YAI kisses the lead, you can tell that he likes her (the character of course, not the actress) he gets into his character really well and it shows how good he is at acting

Criminally Underrated
I will keep this short- If you have doubts whether to watch this one or not, don't waste time thinking, Just go for it!I was wowed as the concept that they had was not easy to execute but they did an exceptional job at it. I had read somewhere that the past life storyline is far more interesting than the current one. I would disagree here and say that both were equally interesting but the present day storyline takes time to grow on you as you really have to be invested in the characters to truly enjoy this drama.
The cast nailed each role and showcased the emotions of the characters with utmost nuance and beauty. A special shout-out to Yoo Ah In who nailed his role and looked absolutely gorgeous while he was at it.
The story takes time to develop- but that's exactly what I like about it. The initial 4 episodes might seems slow but they are necessary for us to understand the male lead's actions and emotions and for us to connect with them. I was hooked since the start to the ending and after a very long time had a drama got me this invested.
The focus of the story is around the main leads and the 'villain' here also had a compelling storyline and it is always nice to see a well-written villain that has motive.
The leads had great chemistry and their storyline was also written well. Even though you feel bad for the parallel lead (whose character is extremely likable), you are still super satisfied with the main couple's journey and ending. Even the dynamic of all the 3 leads is fun to watch and the Bromance is strong in this one which is one of its many positives.
The concept was delivered beautifully and the OST really went well with the vibe of the show.

Watched it the second time around today, and I still ended up harboring the same intense feelings of pain that I felt the first time I saw it. Love under the wrong circumstances, I’m always a sucker for these stories.I love everything about this drama that I’m even having a hard time putting my love for it in words. Where do I even begin?
The plot was genius. Reincarnation stories are common in the world of kdrama, but wow, this one was really well thought of. You obviously have a writer who knew what kind of story s/he wanted to share since episode one, and she managed to connect both the past life and present life in such a clean manner that would leave you wanting more of the story after every episode. The characters and how they each played a role in each others’ lives both in the past and present was stitched too well. God, I can’t get enough of this brilliance.
The writing and pace was perfect. Truly appreciated the subtle hints they gave of how explosive the revelations from the past would be in the end. From the very first episodes, I loved how the characters used their past lives in passing for their present day dilemmas (ex: “i must have been a traitor of our country in my past life”) . Never knew these harmless comments would actually take a whole new meaning once the whole story would be revealed.
The acting... they were too good. All the actors gave so much life to the characters that I found myself being attached to them and thinking about how painful their pasts could have been.
The OST. Omg the OST. The songs were perfectly used during the right moments. I found myself listening to some of them weeks after I finished the last episode, and I’m always drawn back to the pain I felt while watching this drama. Sometimes, I even pause whatever I’m doing just to feel the pain that comes along with the songs.
The setting. The show managed to give us a peek into the life of Korea under the Japanese rule. The costumes and places truly gave off a nostalgic feeling, and it left me wondering about what kind of life they had back then.
There are too many other things to compliment about this show. It’s perfect for someone who loves sad stories like me. Haaaay ❤️
